My partner was contacted by a well known debt collection agency for a store card balance of around £450 owing from a few years ago. I spoke to debttactics.co.uk who wrote to the debt collector requesting information we were entitled to under current legislation and asking several questions regarding the debt, a reply was requested within 28 days.
Six months later the debt collector replied only answering two of the questions and not providing any of the required information, they provided some extra information, which had not been requested, but it appeared to be an attempt by the debt collector to justify their right to demand payment of the outstanding debt. The questions that had not been answered were then expanded on and sent straight back to the debt collector; a reply was requested within 14 days. This deadline has now passed and the debt collector hasn’t responded.
Although I could possibly have dealt with this issue myself I wouldn’t have known the questions to ask and did not want to spend several evenings of my spare time reading up on contract law, current legislation and writing letters.
